St Mary's Church Choir, Ecclesfield, c1890
The Revd. Dr Alfred Gatty, vicar of Ecclesfield from 1839 to 1903, sits with the St Mary’s Church choir outside the vicarage in the early 1890s after a Whit Sunday service. In his autobiographical work, A Life at One Living, Dr Gatty wrote that every year the choir had ‘a trip to the sea, or elsewhere, with a dinner, for which the offertories pay’.
