St Mary's Church Ecclesfield

This magnificent church resulted from extensive re-building in the Perpendicular style at the end of the fifteenth century, although a church had stood on the site since at least the twelfth century. Inside there is a monument to Sir Richard Scott and stained glass windows to the children’s writers, Margaret Gatty and her daughter Juliana Ewing. Buried in the churchyard are Joseph Hunter, the renowned local historian and Alexander John Scott, Nelson’s chaplain and secret agent.
