Pictured is an early six coupled shunting locomotive supplied to Thorncliffe Ironworks by Manning Wardle and Co. Ltd at Leeds.
Locomotives were used to pull and shunt raw materials and part-finished products around the works. There were six trains and each had a local name e.g. Mortomley, Tankersley
