Reinstatement to Newton Chambers for Ex-Service Men 1945

Over 1500 ex-service men and women were employed at Thorncliffe after the war.  Instead of being thrown back into work straight away they attended a resettlement course which lasted a week.  They visited each department, were introduced to each manager and listened to his description of what the department was doing.  On the first and last day, Mr West explained the functions and responsibilities of Directors, the administration of the business and the way the money was used to finance the undertaking.  Thus close relations were established and the men and women found it a little easier to adjust to civilian life and work.
