Staindrop Lodge, Lane End.
Staindrop Lodge was built in 1806 by George Newton, one of the founders of Newton Chambers’ Thorncliffe Ironworks. It is named after Staindrop in County Durham, George Newton’s birthplace. It was lived in by his descendants and was largely re-built in 1904 by his grandson Thomas Chambers Newton. In the 1940s it was taken over by the company for meetings and accommodating guests. It is now a restaurant and hotel.
