Thorncliffe workers in Soviet Union, 1932.
In 1932 a small party of Newton Chambers employees made the 1700 miles overland journey to Bobriki near Moscow to erect a steelworks gas plant. They then installed a semi-water gas plant, a pig iron casting machine and ore/coke transfer cars at a steelworks near Magnitogorsk in the Urals. Here the team pose for a photograph with their Russian interpreter, Nina, on the back row on the extreme left.
