Churchill tanks.
A line of newly-made Churchill tanks is lined up in the roadway on Warren Lane ready for testing. During World War Two Newton Chambers manufactured 1,160 tanks in the excavator factory on Warren Lane. The location of the tank factory was thankfully unknown to the Germans and was not marked on their aerial photograph. In the background can be seen the aerial ropeway carrying coal from Rockingham Colliery to Smithy Wood Coking Plant.
