Ecclesfield Hospital Parade, 1906.jpg

In the days before the National Health Service was introduced, hospitals depended for a substantial amount of their income on bequests, endowments and public generosity. Ecclesfield mounted an annual ‘hospital parade’ from the 1890s until the mid-1930s. On this parade a cavalcade of horse-drawn floats would tour the area accompanied by collectors in fancy dress who collected money from the public. These three impressive floats have just passed the Griffin Inn on their way to Grenoside in 1906.
