Chapeltown 'Feast' at night.
This travelling fair that attracted thousands, was held behind the Coach & Horses public house on Station Road. On entering the fairground there would be stalls offering un-passable eatables such as brandy snap and toffee apples and there were slot machines and shooting galleries. Then there were the rides: the steamboats, flying chairs, Carousel, Noah’s Ark, waltzers and dodgems. Sideshows included the bearded lady, the boxing booth and sometimes the man putting his head in a lion’s mouth!
