Greengate Lodge, High Green.
Greengate Lodge at the entrance to Greengate Lane was erected as a tollbar cottage in 1837. Tolls were collected from users on behalf of the owners of Mortomley Hall, the owners of the private land through which the lane passed. In 1972 Mr Bernard Jordan who was born there in1888, recalled that when he was a boy his mother collected the one penny toll. The lodge was demolished in 1934 when Greengate Lane was widened.
