Herbert and Mary Ann Shaw of High Green.
In the second half of the 19th century Herbert Shaw decided to emigrate to the U.S.A. His sweetheart Mary Ann Beet was to join him but her father, Tom Beet, landlord of the Travellers Inn on Thompson Hill refused to let her go. Herbert returned in 1890 and they were married. They had seven children and became licensees of the Packhorse Inn in High Green.
