Grenoside Primitive Methodist Chapel, Main Street
Now converted to a private house, this chapel was built in 1903 of local sandstone. It replaced a small traditionally styled chapel built by the breakaway sect from the Methodists, the Primitive Methodists Connection, in 1857. Following the opening of this "new" more commodious chapel in 1904 - a little further along Main Street from the original place of worship - the "old" chapel was retained as a Sunday School and meeting room. The Primitive Methodists (known locally as "The Wesleyans" rejoined the original Methodists during the 1960's, and the congregation joined in services at the Methodist church on Norfolk Hill, Grenoside, making the illustrated building, and the old chapel surplus to requirement.
