This photograph is of the Queens Nursing Medal that was awarded to Vera Kay (1918-1992) in 1969.
Vera Kay trained as a registered nurse at Sheffield Infirmary. She then moved to Moorfields Eye Hospital in London before moving to Nottingham as a District Nurse. Whilst she was living in Nottingham, she lodged with the brother and mother of Father Clifford Ashley, on Cambridge Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham. Father Ashley was a parish priest at St. Bernard's, Southey Green. Vera Kay returned to Ecclesfield in 1967 after the death of her mother, Ethel Kay. She lived at 86, Cross Hill, with her father, Albert Kay, taking care of him until he died. She took up a post on the District and served as a sister around the Southey Green area, based at Firth Park clinic.
