Derrick and Edith Kay's wedding (1)
This is the wedding photograph of Derrick Frank Kay (1924-1979) and Edith Lydia Blazey (1925-1984) at St. Mary's, Ecclesfield in October 1948. On the far left is best man, Tommy Cotton, who was a work colleague of Derrick's (they both worked at Shefflex on Rutland Road). Tommy Cotton married Joyce a few years later, and they had a son called John and a daughter called Diana. Tommy and Joyce latterly lived in Stannington, Sheffield. The little boy at the front on the left is page boy Ian Glenn, the son of Olwyn and Dick Glenn of the Brecks, Rotherham. Olwyn was Edith Lydia Blazey's cousin. The wedding couple are as named above. To the right of Edith is her father, William Blazey, who fought in World War One with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, being taken prisoner by the Germans at the Battle of Le Cateau in 1914. On the far right is Vera Kay, sister of Derrick, who was a Queen's Nurse. The couple were fortunate enough to have fine weather on their wedding day. They went on to have a reception at Edith's mother's house on St. Michael's Crescent followed by a honeymoon in Bournemouth.
