Wesleyan Chapel, Ecclesfield.
In 1743, the vicar of Ecclesfield reported to the Archbishop of York that there were four or five Methodists in the parish of Ecclesfield. He went on to say that ‘I do not expect the Methodists to last very long’. He was wrong. This chapel which closed in the early 21st century, was opened in June 1898, replacing an earlier chapel opened in 1818. It was built in the Renaissance style and was designed to accommodate about 750 worshippers.
