Melting shop, Hall & Pickles.jpg
Hall & Pickles were originally a firm of metal merchants and iron stockholders from Manchester. In 1931 they built their Hydra Steel Works on greenfield land on Nether Lane in Ecclesfield. Here they installed an electric furnace, a forge and a wire mill. They produced heat-resistant stainless steels, electrical resistance wire and high quality engineers’ cutting tools. The works has now gone and the site is a business park.
