Whitefield Cottages & Sussex Rd, Chapeltown.
The old whitewashed, Whitefield Cottages, now gone, obviously pre-date the other terraced houses on Sussex Road. The road name is derived from a minor title (the Earl of Sussex) of the local landowner, the Duke of Norfolk. Sussex Road leads to Arundel Road, the Earl of Arundel being another minor title of the dukes of Norfolk. The building at the far end of the road was the ticket office of Chapeltown’s Midland Railway station.
