Market Place shops, Chapeltown 1960s.
For more than two centuries Chapeltown has been an important retail and commercial centre for the surrounding area with its shops, open-air market, banks and public houses. Here in a photograph taken in the early 1960s, between the railway bridge and the Waggon & Horses, can be seen Charles’ dress fabrics, C.R. Storr & Co’s boot and shoe repairer’s and Hobson’s butcher’s shop.
