Lound.
This area of Chapeltown, like Smithy Carr, has an Old Norse name. This time it is lundr meaning a small wood or copse. The area was first mentioned in a document written between 1200 and 1210. It is still marked on maps as Lound Side but these stone-built, ivy-covered cottages with their stone-walled gateway have now been demolished.
