Elizabeth Chapman & her daughters.
Elizabeth Chapman (née Champion) married Thomas Chapman, filesmith and landlord of the Acorn Inn at Bracken Hill in the mid-1830s. Here she poses with her three daughters, left to right, Elizabeth, Ann and Sarah, in a watercolour painting, dated 1858. It is assumed that the painter was an itinerant out-of-work artist who perhaps could not pay for his beer!
