'Chinny' Cooper's shop, Station Rd, Chapeltown
Wilf ‘Chinny’ Cooper’s shop was a local institution. Not only could you get a haircut or a shave but you could buy almost anything including working boots, leather laces, metal buckets and ‘snap’ tins, shovels and spades and wash tubs to name but a few. You could buy 1 cigarette and two matches which were either Number 6 or Park Drive. And everything on sale was on display: outside the shop, in the window and inside the shop including on the stairs.
