Post Office Grenoside Early 1900s
Mr Charles Womersley and his wife Sarah Ann kept the shop/post ofiice on Penistone Road in the early 1900's. Their older children delivered the mail and in the photo Cecil and Maggie stand at the ready. Cecil also helped his father with the horses because Mr Wormsley carried stone from the local quaries, fetched house coal by the ton from Thorncliffe Drift at Smithy Wood, hawked fruit and vegetables and was also a carrier of goods from Sheffield to Grenoside & Chapeltown. Cecil took over his father's round as hawker of fruit and vegetables and was also a carrier of goods.
