Mr George Fisher, Undermanager at Tankersley Colliery 1930
George Fisher was Undermanager at Tankersley Colliery during the first part of the 20th Century. He belonged to a High Green family and lived at Upper Tankersley where he was a long-serving member of Tankersley Church Choir. A member of his family was affectionately known as Water Rat because his duty included walking the airway between Newbiggin and Tankersley collieries checking there had been no fall or blockages.
