Ecclesfield French Trip, Arc de Triomphe, August 1982
Photograph taken on one of the "Ecclesfield French Trips" which were arranged annually by Ecclesfield School French teacher, David Smith (known as Daz Smith).
Taken August 1982.
The three people in the group are (left to right): Edith Lydia Kay (nee Blazey), her son James Melville Kay and Edith's former school friend, Irene Hobson (nee Briers). Both families lived on Cross Hill, Ecclesfield at the time.
The photograph was taken by Ron Humberstone. Incidentally, it was during this holiday that Ron's works manager from Barworth Flockton 'phoned him at home to see why he wasn't at work (he was presumed to be ill). His son Ian informed the manager that he was in Paris! Fortunately, it did not lead to Ron's dismissal upon his return to work, but his colleagues dressed up and did the can-can down the workshop upon his return to work! This incident was recalled at Ron's funeral in 2015.
