Midland Hotel, Chapeltown.
This public house, later called The Carousel, The Escape and now Thorncliffe Arms, acquired its old name because of its location near to the Midland Railway Station in Chapeltown. The large group of customers assembled in front of the hotel are gathering prior to a day out at York races in 1914. On the doorstep can be seen the landlord, Scholey Almond, flanked on the left, in the white dress, by his daughter Cissie and on the right by his son Leslie.
