Asda supermarket shelves, bare during pandemic
During the first few weeks of lockdown, supermarkets struggled to keep up with the demand for essential items like milk, toilet rolls, bread and then flour was in short supply as people had more time to bake at home. Other items which were sparse included hand wash, hand sanitiser and paracetamol.
