Station Road, Chapeltown.

The quiet scene shown here belies the importance of Station Road to the residents of Chapeltown. Formerly known as Furnace Lane, it was re-named after the coming of the railway in 1897, leading as it did to the railway station on White Lane. On the right is the Picture Palace that opened in December 1912 and closed in March 1963. It still stands, having been used at first as a bingo hall and now as a snooker club.
