Charlton Brook Cottages.
Charlton in Charlton Brook first appears in 1453 as chirkin and charkin which could mean squelching or charring (possibly the making of charcoal). In the second half of the nineteenth century the Ogden family kept the Bridge Inn at Charlton Brook but were also charcoal makers, perhaps following an ancient charcoal making tradition. These cottages overlooked the dam and were demolished in the 1960s.
