Burncross Road.

Although now just a small district within the Chapeltown area, Burncross was significant enough as a distinct place in the distant past to carry its own name. The belief is that ‘burn’ is derived from bere-aern (= barn) as in nearby Barnes Hall. The word ‘cross’ could have two possible meanings. It could mean exactly what it says, a wooden cross or a way-mark. Or it could refer to the nearby cross-roads where the present Burncross Road is crossed by Bracken Hill and Hollow Gate.
